Book #278
Since it is Halloween, here is my special haunted house tunnel book. There are various ways of constructing tunnel books and this particular example is made by stitching the pages to the accordion side panels.
It has been very easy to neglect my blog this month but I still intend to reach 365 eventually!

Happy Halloween!
This year I haven't been able to indulge in making any Halloween-themed books myself; but, I always like to look around and see what other people are doing to bring books and Halloween together. So, I thought I would share some of the things I found.
Great idea number 1, making a super cool bat book. This is by "Bookfolding" on Etsy. There are other Halloween books in this shop too, pumpkins and ghosts, also wonderful.

And number 2, a classy Halloween journal from Baghy, on Etsy.

Number 3 is this awesome leather hardcover journal by TheSelkiesSkin, on Etsy.

Number 4 is this pumpkin book, with tutorial:

And number 5, is this trompe-l'oeil skull print by DogEarPrints, also on Etsy.
And lastly, and super amazing, are Tracy Chong's Halloween pop-up cards. Also on Etsy. This is just one example of Tracy's many awesome pop-ups that I saw during my search.

Happy Halloween!
I didn't have a chance to make any exciting Halloween journals this year, unfortunately. I love making journals with a Halloween theme because there is so much fabulous imagery and folklore associated with the season and Halloween has the best colours of all the holidays!
There are some really cool Halloween books to see over on the BEST blog. In fact, they are looking for votes. So go over there and pick your favorite to win the BEST Zombie Award for 2012: www.bookbindingteam.com.

It's just that time of year again
I've been so busy during the last couple months, that I haven't accomplished much at all. Apologies for not having exciting things to share here on my blog lately. First of all, I've started making my weekly planners for 2013, which always keeps me busy this time of year.
Second, it's Fall and holiday craft markets are coming up, starting about a month from now. And last weekend was Thanksgiving and in two weeks, it's Halloween!

BEST Zombie Award 2009
Thank you to everyone who has been following these Halloween Challenges and casting votes for my books! The Bookbinding Etsy Street Team actually had a tie for the award this year.
The two winning books were my tunnel book, Trapped Inside a Haunted House, and Sara Hindmarch's book, Vampire Diary, so congratulations to us! Sara is defending her title since she won the award last year, way to go! Check out the full results on the team's blog.
The Trans Canada Etsy Team's Halloween Challege ended yesterday too. The winner was a Haunted Tree Pendant by MyBelleBijoux. I voted for her pendant too, it is really great! So my MacBeth journal was the runner up (again... I was the runner up last time too!).

Halloween Challenges - I need your votes!
This week, my halloween books are looking for votes! The Bookbinding Etsy Street Team is having its second halloween challenge for the BEST Zombie Award. I made this tunnel book for the challenge: Trapped Inside a Haunted House.
You can vote for this book (or whichever book you like most) over at the BEST Blog.
AND - the Trans Canada Etsy Street Team is also having a Halloween challenge this week! Same idea, except that this team consists of a wide range of artisans and crafters, not just book artists. So the collection of halloween items is wonderfully wide-ranging! For this challenge, I submitted my Macbeth journal which has the witches' chant on the back cover, printed onto some of my handmarbled paper - and an illustration from an old storybook on the front cover.
So now hop on over to the Trans Canada blog to vote for this book (or whichever item you like best, of course!)
If you leave comments on either of those blogs, there are little surprises to be won by some random commenters, so be sure to leave a comment in both places! Happy Halloween...

More books
I've been making 2010 planners, getting ready for the new year.

And some Halloween Journals! I picked up an old book of nursury rhymes and stories at a thrift shop, and the book was in rough condition, pages falling out, etc. I used some pictures from this book for the covers of these journals.

More Halloween Book Stuff
Happy Halloween everyone! Firstly, congratulations to Re:Paper, and the Sugar Skull book who won the BEST Zombie Award! The voting was a real nail biter. The Sugar Skull and my coffin book were neck in neck, always at each others heels, breathing down each others necks! Phew!
During the last few days, I've come upon some other books and book-related items that seem appropriate for Halloween. One of my favorite books, read and re-read, love it completely is Shelley's Frankenstein. Etsy seller, Lightreading, made this Mary Shelley art paper doll. Stained and shredded pages from Frankenstein are used to make the skirt, and lots of other materials and textures and images are used to complete her.
Also by Lightreading, this is a Halloween room decoration. Described in her Flickr photostream as "paper shreds strung with wire & black feathers and charms." The text is from three books, all in my list of favorites: Dracula, Sleepy Hollow and again Frankenstein.
This one seems to be the opposite of my own halloween book, which was the coffin with a book inside. This is a book with a skeleton inside. By Etsy seller,SauvageRavenCreation. This is "Tina, the twisted" - a small wooden book box transformed into Tina's final resting place.
I thought this was a terrific Halloween image, very goulish and spooky and such. And also great that it has a spooky book in it. I found this photo on Flickr - the description made me laugh, as it says the old book was "borrowed" (with the quotation marks) from a rare book library for the photo shoot. Hmmm...! This photographer also has a nice photo of Bram Stoker's gravestone and the absolute best Alien costume ever.
More room decorations for Halloween - book pumpkins! Looks like the books have been trimmed and opened 360 degrees, then little jack-o-lantern faces attached. I found this image on Flickr and also in context on the same person's blog, RoseyLittleThings, who has done a lot of Halloween decorating if you're looking for ideas.

Halloween Books
The Bookbinding Etsy Street Team issued a Halloween Challenge to its members. The plan was to make themed books to capture the spirit of any of the upcoming holidays: Halloween, Bonfire Night, Thanksgiving, etc, whatever inspired us. Now we want everyone to vote for their favorite.
I made a little coffin book, and it has its own coffin!
