I get a lot of questions from people who are starting to do some bookbinding and I try to give easy answers; but, technique is something that is hard to describe in an email message. One question I get, is how to case in a textblock and keep the endpapers straight. First of all, practice many times. It's easier the hundredth time. I thought it might be helpful show a video, so here is a clip of me as I case in a text block. If this step is one that you struggle with, maybe you will see something helpful in my technique. No guarantees, though. Sometimes my endpapers are still crooked!

Great video! Very clear how you did the casing in. More videos please!
Lovely, Rhonda! That's very clear and easy to see - and follow. I've done this before, but not for a while, so it's handy to have a reminder!
Thanks for taking the time and trouble to share this with others.
A great video - clear, well paced and not to much for an ignoramus like me to take in! And how professionally you cased that book.
Next video, I think you should take a bow at the end so I can applaud!
Oh I loved this little video!!! The key for me was when you took the cover and pressed the bookblock into the inside of the spine and then that all famous 90° shove down ....ouh,,that is key as sometimes the block is not all the way into the spine....THANKS for reminding me!!!
You should do a series. The quality on your video is GREAT. You can see what you are doing, you explain things as you go and most important you are encouraging to your viewer - you don't try to make it seem all mysterious.
You could also do some odds and ends like my issue *laugh* I've got a book right now that is 4 inches thick and I'm not sure the best way to sew it/ case it. But that's part of the fun!
Thanks for all your comments! I know it is always helpful for me to see other people work - I always pick up little things even if it's something that I think I know already!
Wow that was well done. Do you use headbands?
Thanks Steve. Yes, I use headbands. The textblock in this video has false endbands, but sometimes I sewn my own.
Very nicely done, Rhonda, both the casing in and the video. You're a natural at teaching in this way.
Perfect! This process always freaks me out - you make it look really easy...and your voice is so soothing!
