I have two more books made from repurposed materials to show you before I move on to other things.
This first one is a hardcover book, using reclaimed bookboard in the covers. The spine material is cut from a discarded pleather jacket. The paper on the covers is from a red paper bag, and the pages are all cut from brown paper bags. (And it's just a pretty red book, very nice to share today on Valentine's Day!)
This next one is made entirely with discarded paper. The cover of the book and slipcase are cut from the cover of a large sketchbook. This is the "Crossed Structure Solo" binding structure. The pages are all from the recycling bin and include previously used papers that are still mostly blank, as well as some lined pages from discarded notebooks, etc.

Wow - very VERY nice! I've gotta get paper bags from the grocery store now -
were the pages glued together or sewn? They look like they have a glued spine. I'm trying out different ideas for repurposed books, so I'm curious.
Thanks
Sue
Thanks Kim! Keep in mind that brown paper bags are not archival, don't use them in books that you want to last forever!
akartisan, both these books have sewn bindings.
How did you get your 'pleather' to adhere to the rounded spine? I had a devil of a time using simulated leather over false bands. I could not get it to mold to the bands and the spine.
Beauties both of them!
I love your books from repurposed items! Such a creative use of trash. Thanks for sharing!!!!
thanks paperfection and Swells!!
carl.yetter, i think that piece of pleather was quite thin and I may have backed it with paper first... though, honestly, I made this book quite some time ago and I'm not entirely sure if I'm remembering the details correctly. But I don't remember having any trouble with it. I can imagine, though, that this sort of material might not like being shaped around false bands.
Ooh, you included blank manuscript paper! I think that is just the coolest.
Your books are so beautiful, love the red valentine one - with all those paper bags inside it's a treasure! :-)
thanks Sarah and iHanna!
That is ridiculously creative. I love it!
thanks :)
