I've bound some sketchbooks for myself, mostly just accordian-fold with fabric covering the bookboard (or cardboard, as the case may be) - I'd love to take a class and learn to do what you do! But for now, I'll just keep buying from your shop. :-)lala412https://www.blogger.com/profile/14300929316981967018noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-75381379549960764202008-08-30T11:09:00.000-03:002008-08-30T11:09:00.000-03:00thanks so much, Susannah!thanks so much, Susannah!MyHandboundBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09128121850646186100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-83577861385057865302008-08-30T02:47:00.000-03:002008-08-30T02:47:00.000-03:00Hi RhondaI came across your website by chance, and...Hi Rhonda

I came across your website by chance, and was very impressed with your books. I have had a few goes at book binding, using Keith Smith as a guide, with a local paper arts studio, (local being Hobart in Australia) and it really is great fun. It certainly gave me a good appreciation of how tricky some of the stitching is, so I can appreciate just how lovely your work is.

regards

SusannahSusannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07132044454683106362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-36601909944645657612008-08-29T19:20:00.000-03:002008-08-29T19:20:00.000-03:00thanks Billie!Szirmai is the author of the text, T...thanks Billie!

Szirmai is the author of the text, The Archaeology of Medieval Bookbinding, an extremely thorough study of ancient bookbinding techniques.MyHandboundBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09128121850646186100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-45624285865099519282008-08-29T16:35:00.000-03:002008-08-29T16:35:00.000-03:00Hi RhondaWOW you are so clever to be able to copy ...Hi Rhonda

WOW you are so clever to be able to copy a book just from a picture. Of course, it starts out as a very plain longstitch (the archival sewing that he describes). Then the interweaving to create the X happens just on the outside (just going back and forth over and under the threads) - and is more decorative than functional.MyHandboundBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09128121850646186100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-49833968782842175882008-08-28T05:27:00.000-03:002008-08-28T05:27:00.000-03:00You are so inspirational Rhoda. I don't think the stitching is too bulky; it looks pretty much the same on the picture. Does Szirmai provide instructions on how to do these?tulibrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17224205703946020476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25605829.post-38204461884121857562008-08-28T03:20:00.000-03:002008-08-28T03:20:00.000-03:00How fantastic Rhonda!
